︎BENJAMIN MERRITT︎
HE/HIM

Benjamin Merritt utilizes printmaking methods such as copper plate etching, monotype, and lithography to produce textures that are undeniably bodily. He states, “the printed mark acts as an image relating to scarring, rubbing, or touching.”  Merritt’s prints and drawings seek to challenge normative readings of the culturally and scientifically constituted body. Often citing forms of writing such as medical indexes, clinical documents, and personal writing as a way to explore how a patients body is recorded as well as his own relationship to illness.

Merritt is currently a 2019-2020 Jerome Resident at Highpoint Center for Printmaking in Minneapolis, MN.
